Headaches are commonly mismanaged

Headaches and Migraine

Do any of these describe your headaches or migraines?

Do your headaches:

  • stop you from enjoying yourself and intrude on your everyday life?
  • affect quality time with your family?
  • force you to avoid things you enjoy, eg sun, wine, chocolate or cheese?
  • make you less effective at school or work?
  • mean you find it hard to think or multitask?

Or maybe you have:

  • seen specialists who have made a diagnosis, but there is no lasting solution or the solution involves ongoing medication
  • had investigations like MRI that have shown no identifiable cause for your problem
  • had physio or chiro treatment that has helped but the benefit hasn’t lasted
  • felt helpless and resigned to having ongoing headaches or migraines

If you answer ‘YES’ to any of these, you are EXACTLY  the kind of person that we love helping at Adelaide West Headache Clinic.

So What Is The Watson Headache Approach?

The Watson Headache Approach is a systematic approach to assessing and treating headache and migraine problems.

The aim is to identify patients who have a truly relevant relationship between their neck and their headaches or migraines.

This is done through targeted questioning and a specific series of tests.

If you have a headache or migraine at the time of examination, the aim is to identify what is capable of reducing the pain.

If there is no headache present, we identify if there are particular joints that are capable of being involved in your headache or migraine pain.

Regardless of the type of your headache or migraine, the Watson Headache Approach is the best  assessment tool in determining if your neck is involved.

If there is a neck component to your problem, the Watson Headache Approach is effective for treatment, including for migraine of all types.

Did you know that the upper neck can be involved in many different types of headaches and migraines?

Of course, the neck isn’t involved in all headaches or migraines, but it can be a dominant factor in a surprising number of different types, including:

  • menstrual migraine
  • silent migraine
  • sinus headache
  • migraines triggered by smells, foods and drinks
  • tension-type headache
  • cluster headache
  • SUNCT
  • hemicrania continua
  • chronic paroxsymal hemicrania
